Overview
Ottawa, like most major cities, has an abundance of shops, boutiques and malls. There are lots of places all over the city to shop ’til you drop. Our listing of links highlights some of the places we highly recommend in the National Capital Region.
For starters, check out some of the shopping centres in Ottawa for all sorts of shopping needs. Rideau Centre serves the downtown area, while Bayshore in the west and St. Laurent in the east are your best bets in the burbs. If you need even more selection, big box centres like Pinecrest, South Keys, the Kanata Centrum and the newly built Trainyards offer a wide selection of large specialty stores, such as Chapters, Ikea and Future Shop, as well as grocery stores, restaurants and home improvement centres.
For unique boutique and high-end shopping, you’ll want to check out major shopping districts such as those along Sussex Drive; Sparks Street; Elgin Street; Bank Street in Centretown, the Glebe and Old Ottawa South; and Wellington Street West in Westboro and Hintonburg. Of course, you also have to check out the ByWard Market, which features not only great shopping and eating but also historic buildings and a fresh produce market in the summer months.
