Ottawa’s newly opened Afro Black Cultural Centre will host the Black History Month Music Arts Festival this month, kicking it off Friday with a series of live performances streamed from the centre’s Centretown location at 365 Bank Street.
Founded by the Ottawa-area poet-musician-educator Wise Atangana, the centre at 365 Bank St. and festival are part of his larger vision to combat systemic racism through artistic expression.
“Our festival is about how we use art and music to address systemic barriers, and to maintain mental health and well-being through the arts,” Atangana said. “That’s the focus.”
