Ottawa’s Rachel Homan is heading back to the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts after successfully defending the Ontario women’s title.
Homan capped an undefeated 9-0 run with a 7-6 victory over Toronto’s Hollie Duncan during Saturday’s final in Cornwall, Ont.
After conceding a steal in the seventh end that tied it 4-4, Homan bounced back big time in the eighth with a hit for three points and held on from there to earn her fifth career provincial championship.
The team of Homan, third Emma Miskew, second Joanne Courtney and lead Lisa Weagle settled for silver in last year’s Scotties Tournament of Hearts giving up steals in the 10th and extra ends of the final to fall 8-6 to Chelsea Carey’s Team Alberta.
Toronto’s John Epping and Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene will meet Sunday in the Ontario Tankard men’s final.
The Scotties Tournament of Hearts runs Feb. 15-23 in Moose Jaw, Sask., with the Tim Hortons Brier taking place Feb. 29 to March 8 in Kingston.
